Hope I spelled that last headline word correctly. Had to use it because that sort of tells the tale. The “Cereal” State (filled with nuts, fruits, and flakes) is just that. However, I discovered a few small pockets of real-world. Ya gotta go searching. Fortunately, for my own peace of mind and sanity I found one such pocket on the Monterey Peninsula. It is not a monolithic entity. There are plenty of “those kind” there too but I did find some who are not in lock-step with Pelosi, Boxer, Brown and fellow Obmabots. But I digress.
The purpose of the jaunt to the Left Coast was to attend the high school graduation of my Grand Daughter. It was held mid afternoon Friday on the athletic field. The sun was out but the wind joined the crowd and kept the temperature in the high fifties. This Floridian had a small challenge with that. It is called shivering alot. However, the graduating class looked great (and so very young). I was tuned in to spotting things done or said that were contradictory to what I, and most Americans, hold dear. The Pledge of Allegiance was correctly done, not the way Obama normally does it. The Star Spangled Banner was played beautifully, again with correct verbiage. Everyone stood. The addresses from both faculty and graduating seniors was well done; nary a snarly word. A good many grads were going on to college and some even into the military. Later, on the field and congratulating the graduates, I saw Americana at it’s best. I am decidedly prejudiced but Grand Daughter was truly representative of America at it’s best.
The festivities afterward were great; good food, great conversation, upbeat atmosphere all way around. Later that evening, after most folks had gone home and after a few toddies, I decided to hold forth on politics. Big mistake, that. While my kids pretty much agree with me on my intense dislike of Obama and his policies, they do not sense Armageddon in the event he is re-elected. They believe all will turn out just fine. After all, they have seen economic downturns before and all came out OK. Why not this time around? I explained. No luck at convincing them. While I am confident they will vote correctly, I suspect they will not be attending any Tea-Party events.
They did not even buy that Californians are leaving their somewhat tarnished “Golden State” for “Greener” (deliberate word choice), pastures.
Because of bad weather, my American Airlines flight, via Dallas, was cancelled…three times. Best I could do was to fly to LAX and subsequently to SFO. It was in these two locales that I discovered the way California predominantly is these days. The state has truly become third world. English was NOT the common language spoken, except for American Airlines people etc. I wanted to get a sense of the media mood so I purchased a “San Francisco Chronicle” (part of my “know your enemy program”.) I found out real quick. San Fransicko is defying the law and shall remain a “Sanctuary City”. Additionally, the Sheriff is now releasing illegals back to the streets with no ICE notification. Smoking is not allowed most anywhere. Safeway shopping carts are handed out to homeless folk so they can keep their meager possessions close by. Partners “A” and “B” were all over the place.
While reading a less left-leaning newspaper, I discovered that West Texas (home of 20% of American oil) is in deep trouble with the alphabet soup agencies of Obama’s Washington. Turns out some tiny little critter that no one has actually seen is “endangered” and needs to be “protected.” If this one-inch lizard-like critter hits the “protected species” list, all oil drilling will be stopped. Now THAT is something that should please Lord Obama to no end. I am sure he was delighted last year when the farmers of the California San Joaquin valley all were put out of business because their water was taken away. This area was once a breadbasket for America. No more. Last year I observed this, now, wasteland. How sad to be so “snail-darter” oriented as opposed to real people.
Saw lots of Obama “smart cars” in Kalifornia. Did not observe any in Florida. Governor Brown in Kalifornia is talking of once again raising taxes. Don’t hear that idea in Florida. Gas in CA is $4.41. What did you pay at your last fill up?
And on and on it goes. Touched down late night last night in Orlando and I almost felt like kissing the ground. Remember Dorothy telling Toto “There is no place like home”? I know how she felt.
